In South Korea, every 14th of the month is basically Valentine's Day. In other words, couples get to express their feelings 12 times a year, which is why the celebration is widely known as the "12 Days of Love".

On this day, a diary is believed to be the most popular present couples give each other.
The diary/notebook is seen as a beautiful and thoughtful gift where people in love usually write down their feelings towards each other, lovely observations, or joint goals. Couples can even plan their adventures together.
Another gift that couples might give each other is a candle. It is also a very popular option. It smells amazing and lasts for a very long time.
Girls typically give their partners chocolate or sweets as a present. Or, to make things more romantic, it is also prevalent that girls might even make cookies by themselves or with a partner.
Such a lovely activity will definitely make this a day to remember and cherish for the rest of the life.
Now it's time for the boys to show up and surprise their loved ones with small yet pleasant gifts that will lighten up their day. Giving sweets, cakes, or chocolate is very welcome as well.
Unfortunately, April 14 is known to be the saddest day among the "12 Days of Love". People who do not have a couple or whose hearts have been broken usually choose black outfits and eat Jjajangmyeon (짜장면) – black bean noodles.
On this day, couples prefer wearing matching outfits, while the ones who are single enjoy tasty yellow curry, trying to fill the void in their heart. People in love also bring home beautiful yellow roses.
Love is a feeling that can be expressed in many ways, but on June 14, kisses are the main form of the love language. Although it is not common in South Korea to display affection in public, on this day, couples freely show their emotions through kissing.
Silver Day might be considered one of the most important days among the "12 Days of Love". People in love give each other silver couple rings.
This essential gift symbolises commitment and dedication. It is often seen as an audacious step that highlights the willingness to continue strengthening the relationship between the two, even when things get complicated.
It is a perfect day to enjoy the beauty of nature with your loved one. Walking around the park or having a picnic is the best thing to do!
Couples prefer to drink soju on this day as the bottle is also green.
Couples take pictures together, whether in selfies or photo booths. So, it is better not to waste an excellent opportunity to have fun and create unforgettable memories together.
It's as simple as that! Just grab some fine wine and enjoy the cozy evening together.
Couples spend this day at home, watching their favourite TV shows, cuddling, and eating delicious snacks. It is also common to have a date in the cinema. Any option works!
What can be better than spending the whole day at home, lying down and hugging each other? Especially when it is cold outside during winter, hugging is the best way to spread warmth and love.
Do you find the concept of the "12 Days of Love" appealing? Would you be willing to try it out with your loved one?

For those with single or broken hearts, this is the perfect holiday for you. Celebrated for those who didn’t receive anything on Valentine’s Day or White Day, Black Day should not be missed. On Valentine’s Day in Korea, the girls are required to give chocolate to the boys rather than vice versa. This is not common in the West where often boys are the one showering girls with love through roses and chocolates.
Today, many girls now give their boyfriends gifts and other items instead of just chocolate on Valentine’s day. Like many other countries, there are many heart shaped chocolate boxes, candies and chocolate bars on Valentine’s Day for girls to give. Korean couples love to give each other gifts too like matching outfits, small accessories or whatever else to express their affection.
Just like everyone else, Korean couples go on dates on Valentine’s Day. There are many things to do for couples in Korea, as South Korea has one of the most popular couple cultures.
Starbucks and Sulbing often make Valentine’s inspired desserts for couples to try. Korean couples rush to cafes to spend couple time. You too can head to these places and share a lovely sweet with that special someone in your life!

One popular activity that Korean couples like to do on Valentine’s Day is dress up and visit Bukchon Hanok Village. You can dress up with your significant other and take photos together. Walk hand in hand through these wonderful villages and see the beauty of architecture dating back to the Joseon period.
What is better than to have a spa day? You can see couples also at the spa or relaxing together in a pool on this day. Rather than a high maintenance date, a spa date is more comfortable and calm. Spas are popular too since the work culture in Korea can be very demanding. Korean couples can be seen at bath houses hanging out together and going to the sauna. This helps them to rest from work and unwind. In addition, there is always a couple’s massage which is a must try!

Seollal is coming soon! Without any doubt, it is one of the most awaited and bright holidays in South Korea.
It is way more than just a day on the calendar. Seollal is a time of family gatherings and joy, accompanied by various fascinating activities. So, what do Koreans usually do during this holiday? Let’s discover the simple yet beautiful customs that make this celebration unique, emphasizing the warmth of family ties and the lively spirit that fills the air during the Korean Lunar New Year.
Seollal (설날), or Korean Lunar New Year, is a significant national holiday that has become an essential part of Korean culture. It marks the first day of the Lunar New Year. However, the exact date of Seollal varies annually based on the lunar calendar, but it usually falls between late January and mid-February in the Gregorian calendar. In 2024 - the year of the Wood Dragon - Seollal in South Korea will officially be celebrated on February 10.
Although it is still a mystery yet to be fully unfolded, many people suggest Seollal celebrations can be traced back to the 7th century, as documented in Chinese historical records like the “Book of Sui” and the “Old Book of Tang.” These works include descriptions of national rituals and festivals held in Silla during that period, providing early accounts of Seollal practices and traditions in the region.
With time, the Lunar New Year has covered many countries and is now widely celebrated in Asia. Every nation celebrates Seollal differently, following its distinctive aspects and traditions, and South Korea is no exception. Let’s have a deeper look at various customs and peculiarities.
Sebae (세배) is one of the most important traditions performed during Seollal, when young people deeply bow to the elders, wishing luck, prosperity, and good health. It is seen as a sign of respect towards the elder members of the family. In return, older people generally give youngsters a pretty gift pouch with money inside. This part of the ritual is called sebaetdon (세뱃돈).
Another essential ritual that should be followed is charye (차례). People believe in expressing gratitude and respect to their ancestors during it. Most commonly, food is prepared beforehand and placed on the table. Afterward, deep bows should be performed to pay tribute to ancestors and soak up their wisdom.
Koreans usually wear a Hanbok - a traditional Korean outfit - during the ceremony. The clothing brings authenticity to the process and allows people to look stunning on the special occasion.
Although this tradition is not as widespread as the previous ones, but some people still prefer to do Saju (사주) during Seollal. Saju refers to fortune-telling; Koreans believe the beginning of the Lunar New Year is a great opportunity to find out their fate and get some predictions for the upcoming year in hopes of happiness, well-being, or maybe meeting the love of their life.
What about the food that Koreans prepare for the festive table? Here are some of the dishes that people traditionally eat during the Korean Lunar New Year.
Tteokguk (떡국), a savory soup featuring round rice cakes, holds a special place on the Seollal festive table. It is believed that eating a bowl is like adding a year to your age.
Even though Koreans consume tteokguk regularly, its significance is elevated during Seollal as it represents prosperity and purity.
Another popular dish usually present on the table is Jeon (전). These are pancakes that consist of green onions and a variety of other vegetables.
During Seollal, it is a common tradition for families to make a variety of jeon to celebrate the festive occasion. Some popular types of jeon include kimchi jeon (with kimchi), and haemul jeon (with seafood).
Yut Nori (윷놀이) is a traditional board game that involves throwing four wooden sticks (yut) to identify the number of spaces a player can move on the board.
Strategy and luck are the two main components that make this game a joyful addition to the celebration of Seollal. People absolutely love it!
Neolttwigi (널뛰기) is a seesaw game. It involves two people jumping on either end of a long board, trying to make the person on the other side fall off. It is a fun and lively outdoor activity that brings laughter and pleasure.
Tuho (투호) is another engaging traditional game that involves throwing arrows into a pot called Tuhotong (투호통). Players take turns tossing sticks from a distance, aiming to land them inside the cylinder. Honestly, it is not an easy thing to do! It definitely requires precision and skill.
It is universally agreed that the festive and joyous spirit these traditional folk and Korean board games bring to Seollal celebrations encourages friendly competition and strengthens family ties.
It goes without saying that South Korea is the best place to experience the brightness of Seollal and witness the smiles of people genuinely having fun and reuniting with their families. You should visit it at this period as soon as you have an opportunity!
As the celebration approaches, The Daebak Company wishes you a Happy Lunar New Year! May it bring you peace, joy, and plenty of adventures!
During Seollal, Koreans typically engage in ancestor ceremonies, folk games, traditional food consumption, storytelling, and late-night conversation.
One of the most significant Korean holidays in South Korea is Seollal, which honors the first day of the lunar calendar.
The food might vary depending on families and regions, but the dishes that are commonly encountered on the festive tables are Tteokguk and Jeon
In Mnet's Boys Planet, the bittersweet ending saw the top nine's dreams come true while others faced the challenge of witnessing someone else live their dreams. However, the story didn't end there. For the remaining nine, a new chapter was just about to begin.
Mnet survival shows are all the buzz. They're responsible for some of the public's most beloved groups, such as I.O.I, Wanna One, Kep1er, and ZEROBASEONE.
Though groups are only promised 2 ½ years, they make the most of it by becoming some of the industry's best.
As the successor to Producer 101, Boys Planet gave 98 contestants a shot at debuting in a 9-member 5th gen boy group.
Concluding on April 20, 2023, the top nine were chosen by fans to become ZEROBASEONE (ZB1).
As for the remaining nine, they returned to their respective agencies. What they didn't know though was that an opportunity came knocking.
Let's dive right in and see which Mnet's Boys Planet groups were formed since the finale's conclusion, starting with ZEROBASEONE.
ZEROBASEONE (ZB1) is a nine member group under WakeOne.
The group is composed of Zhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Ricky, Park Gunwook, Kim Taerae, Kim Gyuvin, Kim Jiwoong, and Han Yujin.
On May 26, 2023, WakeOne confirmed that ZB1 would debut in July, and on July 10, their debut single, "In Bloom," was released to the public.
Since their debut, they've released two albums: "Youth in the Shade" and "Melting Point."
They have also won numerous awards, including receiving the recent title of "Rookie Grand Slam," becoming only the 7th group to do so in four years.
Next on the list is EVNNE, a seven-member group under Jellyfish Entertainment (the agency behind VERIVERY and VIXX).
Standing for "EVENing's Newest Etoiles," this temporary group consists of Park Hanbin (ranked 11th), Keita (ranked 12th), Lee Jeonghyeon (ranked 15th), and Yoo Seungeon (ranked 16th).
Though not in the top 18, the remaining members were also former contestants from Mnet's Boys Planet: Yunseo, Junghyun, and Jihoo.
Their debut album Target: Me was released on September 19, 2023, and contains their lead single, "Trouble," which secured them multiple nominations, including a MAMA Award for Best New Male Artist and Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10.
EVNNE returned on January 22 with their second mini album "Un:SEEN."
ONE PACT is a five-member group under Armada Entertainment and consists of four former contestants from Mnet's Boys Planet: Jay (ranked 10th), Jongwoo (ranked 18th), Yedam, and Seongmin. The fifth member, Tag, is a former member of Ciipher.
They officially debuted on November 30, 2023, with their first mini album, [MOMENT].
However, two months before dropping their lead single, "Must Be Nice," they released a performance music video of "G.O.A.T" to tease their debut.
Debuting on November 15, 2023 is the seven-member group AMPERS&ONE under FNC Entertainment (the agency behind P1Harmony and SF9). The group consists of three former Boys Planet contestants: Kamden (ranked 17th), Brian, and Jiho.
Since the release of their music video, it has amassed more than 10 million views on YouTube–an impressive feat for a rookie group.
The group returned for their debut showcase in Osaka, Japan, on January 20.
TIOT, formerly known as REDSTART BOYS, is a pre-debut boy group under Redstart ENM. Much like EVNNE, the group consists of all former Boys Planet contestants: Kum Jungheyon (ranked 14th), Kim Minseoung, Hong Keonhee, and Choi Woojin.
Though their official debut date is unknown, they've already made headlines with their pre-debut song "Undefeated" from their pre-debut album "Frame the Blueprint: Prelude to Possibilities."
"Undefeated" is a remake of the 2001 hit of the same name by 1st-generation K-Pop boy group Click B.
Debuting in a 10-member group under Cube Entertainment in 2016, Hui is the leader of PENTAGON.
With seven members recently confirming their departure from Cube (Dawn in 2018 and Yeo One, Yanan, Yuto, Kino, Wooseok, and Hongseok in 2023), only three remained: Hui, Jinho, and Shinwon.
While the group's future remains unknown, departing members Yeo One and Kino reassured fans they would remain PENTAGON members.
In the meantime, after eight years, Hui (finishing 13th place on Mnet's Boys Planet) has decided to embark on his first-ever solo career with the EP "Whu Is Me: Complex."
The self-composed and produced album was released on January 16th and featured four songs.
This proves that even though a survival program has ended, it's never the end for our faves. There are still so many opportunities left for them and new goals to achieve. We can't wait to see what they'll accomplish next and what legacies they'll leave behind!
After returning from his military enlistment, Hui concluded that there weren't many options left for himself and the group, so he decided to participate in Boys Planet in hopes of bringing more exposure to Pentagon.
It was reported late last year that WakeOne was looking to extend the group's contract beyond 2 ½ years; however, if negotiations with the members' respective agencies are unsuccessful, the group will disband in mid-2024.
A "Rookie Grand Slam" happens when a group wins "Rookie of the Year" at all five major award shows: Melon Music Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, GAON Chart Music Awards, and Seoul Music Awards.
There's a key difference between Korean expiration dates and US expiration dates. If you're new to Korean products, it's best to familiarize yourself with the expiration dates and how to read them properly.
The world of Korean products is a tapestry of innovation, but decoding expiration dates can be tricky, especially if you're not used to buying them.
Here's what you need to look out for:
Commonly found on products, the manufacturing date (제조) indicates when the product was made.
Don't mistake it for an expiration date. It simply shows when the product was produced.
What you need to be looking for is the Until (까지) sign.
In Korean expiration dates, this is the date when the product will remain effective and best to consume. It usually follows the YYYY/MM/DD format.
Ever wondered how long your favorite K-beauty products last?
In general, most skin care items endure approximately 30 months on the shelf and remain effective for 10-12 months after opening. This is why it is best to understand the manufacturing date (제조) so you can determine this date on your own.
Some products, like Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Serum, feature symbols denoting the number of months a product remains potent after opening.
While Korean expiration dates are useful guidelines, there are external factors that come into play. The product's storage conditions, hygiene practices, and many others can influence a product's longevity.
Understanding 제조, 까지, and other symbols empowers consumers to make informed decisions.
Now that you know more about Korean expiration dates, you can start shopping with ease.
Head over to the Daebak Co. to see some of our products that you can take home today!
Dispose of any expired items you own to guarantee a collection of products that can function optimally without causing harm to your skin and health.
It's acceptable to mention "days" but not exceeding a week for most refrigerated produce. Canned and dry goods in the pantry can last for months to years. Regarding meat, fish, and poultry in the fridge, don't exceed the specified date. But with good quality and proper freezer storage, these can last up to three months.

Its unique approach to storytelling, authentic portrayal of corporate lids, and powerful performances have allowed it to achieve cult status among those who appreciate its nuanced exploration of the human experience within the workplace.
Misaeng stands out for its raw and unfiltered portrayal of the corporate environment. Instead of romanticizing office life, the drama confronts the harsh realities, highlighting the struggles, competition, and challenges employees face striving to climb the corporate ladder.
Im Si-wan’s portrayal of Jang Geu-rae is widely praised for its nuance and authenticity. The entire cast delivers stellar performances, contributing to the overall excellence of the drama. Missing Noir M (2015) is another show that deserves more recognition for its gripping suspense, well-developed characters, and unique storyline.
Here are some reasons why Missing Noir M is so special:
Complex and Relatable Characters: The characters in Missing Noir M are not one-dimensional stereotypes. They are complex individuals with their own motivations, flaws, and backstories. Another Miss Oh (2016) is a heartwarming and witty romantic comedy that deserves more recognition for its charming characters, relatable story, and unique take on the concept of soulmates.
Instead of the typical soulmate trope where two individuals are destined to be together, Another Miss Oh explores the idea of multiple soulmates. The show follows the story of two women named Oh Hae-young, both unlucky in love and constantly encountering each other.
As they get to know each other, they begin to question whether they might be soulmates, but with a twist: there could be multiple soulmates for each individual. The unique concept adds an extra layer of complexity and intrigue to the drama’s romantic storyline.
The year 2016 had several successful Korean dramas across different genres. If Another Miss Oh didn't face tough competition from other popular series during its release, it might have gained the same level of attention, contributing to a perception of underrating.
While this K-Drama has a devoted fan base, its specific storyline and tone might appeal to a more niche audience than dramas with broader themes. This could contribute to a perception of underrating among viewers with different preferences.
Korean dramas are subjective, and individual preferences play a significant role in how a drama is received. If Another Miss Oh didn’t align with the specific preferences of certain viewers, they might perceive it as underrated, especially if it didn’t match their expectations or preferred storytelling style.
It’s essential to recognize that the perception of underrating can be subjective, and the K-Drama has been well-received by many viewers. If you enjoy romantic comedies with a unique premise and strong character development, Another Miss Oh is worth considering.
Prison Playbook (2017) is a brilliant series that deserves more recognition for its well-developed characters, heartwarming story, and unique portrayal of prison life.
While many K-Dramas have explored the harsh realities of prison life, Prison Playbook takes a more nuanced and human approach. The show focuses on the lives of inmates and correctional officers, showing their struggles, friendships, and moments of resilience. It doesn’t shy away from the darker aspects of prison life but highlights the humanity of the people forced to live there.
The characters in Prison Playbook are some of the most well-developed and relatable in K-Drama history. They are not simply stereotypes or caricatures but complex individuals with flaws, motivations, and backstories. This makes them incredibly engaging and easy to root for.
Despite its setting, Prison Playbook is a heartwarming drama that celebrates the power of friendship and human connection. The inmates and correctional officers form unexpected bonds, and these relationships provide them with support and meaning in their lives. The story is full of moments of humor, camaraderie, and self-discovery.
Prison Playbook is written and directed with exceptional skill. The writing is witty and insightful, and the direction is poignant and humorous. The drama perfectly balances the darkness and light of prison life, creating a unique and compelling viewing experience.
If you’re looking for a drama that will stay with you long after you finish watching, then this show is worth checking out.
Radio Romance (2018) is a charming and heartwarming romantic comedy that deserves more recognition for its quirky characters, engaging storyline, and heartwarming messages. We give you some reasons why you should watch this show:
While it has gained popularity, it might not have received the same international exposure as other K-Dramas. Limited accessibility on international streaming platforms or less promotion in the global market could contribute to a lack of global recognition.
It’s important to note that individual opinions on a drama can vary, and what one viewer perceives as underrated, another might view differently. If you enjoy romantic comedies, Radio Romance might still be worth exploring to see if it aligns with your personal preferences.
Doctor John (2019) is a hidden gem among K-Dramas that deserves more recognition for its captivating storyline, well-developed characters, and fresh take on the medical genre. Despite its impressive qualities, the show often gets overshadowed by more popular titles, relegating it to the realm of underrated gems.
Unlike conventional medical K-Dramas that often revolve around complex surgeries or life-threatening illnesses, Doctor John delves into the less explored territory of pain management.
The show follows the story of Cha Yo-han, a genius anesthesiologist who can accurately diagnose and treat chronic pain, and Kang Si-youn, a compassionate doctor with a strong sense of justice. Together, they form an unlikely team to tackle the complex world of pain medicine.
The characters in Doctor John are complex and multifaceted, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative. Cha Yo-han is a brilliant but enigmatic individual who struggles with his pain and the weight of his extraordinary ability.
Kang Si-young is a strong and empathetic doctor determined to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from chronic pain. Their relationship is challenging as they navigate their contrasting personalities and professional goals.
The show goes beyond the mere diagnosis and treatment of pain, delving into chronic pain's psychological and emotional aspects. The drama explores the impact of pain on individuals’ lives, relationships, and sense of self. It raises important questions about the medical treatment of pain, the role of empathy in patient care, and the power of human connection to alleviate suffering.
Doctor John is a high-quality production with excellent cinematography, a captivating soundtrack, and a well-paced storyline that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. The show’s intricate medical cases, intricate character relationships, and thought-provoking themes combine to create a thoroughly satisfying viewing experience.
Doctor John is a must-watch if you’re looking for a medical drama that goes beyond the usual tropes and explores the complexities of human pain.

There's no comparing to the feeling of getting to shop in Seoul. For first-time tourists, however, shopping in Korea can be intimidating.
With so much to choose from, allow the Daebak Company to prepare you with our five tips to make your shopping experience good.

By using Naver Maps, traveling around Seoul will be a breeze.
You can save lots of time and money by simply bringing cash (Korean Won) and/or using an international card. With a card from international banks, like Charles Schwabb, you won’t get charged with an international transaction fee. This will allow you to save money when shopping abroad.
It also helps to take some time to withdraw cash from an ATM. Many street vendors prefer cash over cards, and it makes it easier for everyone to complete the transaction.
In some underground markets and many malls, you'll find great deals on socks. These shopping places are also great to shop in during the summer and winter where the temperature is often controlled.

You can even see many other Koreans use a fan during the day to keep cool. Thankfully, most of the subways have air conditioning so you can take a break when shopping.
On the other hand, the winter season can get really cold in Korea. Unfortunately, not all stores offer heating. Make sure to wear multiple layers of clothing and bring a scarf on your trip. Mittens are also really useful even when you’re drinking an americano in winter.
Shopping at Olive Young can make you forget the time. If you're fond of buying beauty and skin care products, you'll love this store.

Also, you need to apply perfume properly. For girls, the key is the inner wrists, under your ears, on your collarbones, and inside your elbows. For men, spray on the lower jaw, neck, shoulder, chest, inner elbow, and wrist.

Can you still recall the last recipe you searched for on Google? Apparently, there were tons of people looking for the recipe for Bibimbap in 2023, which is what led it to become the most searched-for recipe of the year.
This is based on Google's “Year in Search." The trend for Bibimbap marks its growing popularity outside of Korea. Join The Daebak Company on a fascinating journey to learn more about this Korean dish and its many variations.
Fair warning: You might get hungry!
Bibimbap (비빔밥) is one of the most popular Korean dishes. It is usually made with rice, meat (beef, for example), fresh, delicious vegetables, and various condiments. Once the ingredients are ready, all you need to do is mix them in a bowl and enjoy the dish.
But did you know that you can make Bibimbap in different ways? Locals from different regions have unique ways to cook it. Let’s have a look at the existing variations.
Jeonju Bibimbap probably might be the most popular variation of this dish. What makes it authentic is the addition of a Korean chili paste called Gochujang.
Apart from that, it also typically consists of rice cooked with kongamul (soybean sprout), fried or raw beef, carrots, seaweed, and egg yolks. But the list goes on and on as there are around 30 other ingredients that can be added to it.
Without any doubt, the dish has already become the national treasure of South Korea due to its historical origins, nutrition, and flavor.
In fact, there is a Jeonju Bibimbap Festival held annually in October in the Jeonju Hanok Village.
The event attracts a lot of locals and foreigners from all over the world. People participating in it receive an unforgettable experience while diving into the history of this Korean dish, participating in various cooking competitions, and enjoying the music concerts.
Another famous variety of bibimbap is Jinju. Its most distinctive feature is yukhoe (beef tartare), which is added on top of it at the end to bring an incredible meaty taste.
Generally, this dish consists of steamed rice, bean sprouts, sesame seeds, and other vegetables. Jang guk (soybean soup) is also often added to the bowl.
Emerging from Tongyeong, a coastal city on the South Sea, this variation of bibimbap is renowned for the freshness of the Korean seafood it comprises.
Steamed rice, mixed with shrimps, mussels, or clams and seasoned with flavorful condiments and sauces, is typically served with seaweed and vegetables of one’s liking.
This dish is an absolute favorite for those who consider themselves big fans of seafood, as the combination of ingredients is lovely, refreshing, and unique.
Yeolmu Kimchi Bibimbap is another recipe for bibimbap, with yeolmu (young radish greens) kimchi being the heart and soul of this dish. Usually, the radish greens are finely chopped, mixed with a kimchi paste, and then added to steamed rice.
In truth, Koreans consider kimchi a must-have side dish. If you ever get a chance to visit South Korea, you will see that no meal starts without kimchi being present on the table.
It can be enjoyed in many ways and added to almost anything: ramen, pancakes, soups, etc.
Due to the simplicity of Yeolmu Kimchi Bibimbap and its moderate spiciness, it might be a perfect fit for the dinner table on a warm summer day. In addition, this meal could benefit one's health as it has plenty of vitamins (A and C) that are important for a sound body.
Do you already feel like enjoying a delicious bibimbap during your lunch break? Which one would you like to try most?
You can go ahead and make it by yourself at home. But honestly, the best bibimbaps are in South Korea, so you should visit it as soon as you can!
Also, feel free to check out what The Daebak Company offers if you already want to try some Korean food.
Jeonju has become so associated with the signature bibimbap that it holds an annual Jeonju Bibimbap Festival in October.
As the city of Tongyeong is rich in the diversity of seafood, the Tongyeong Bibimbap is prominent for the presence of shrimps, fish, and clams in it.
When making Yeolmu Kimchi, young, crunchy radish greens are often used, generally with their little radish roots attached.
Bingsu is all the rave! Read to learn more about this delicious dessert perfect for a warm day.
If this is your first time hearing about this treat, we've got this in-depth guide to what is bingsu.
Table of content
Bingsu (빙수) is a Korean dessert made from milk and shaved ice often topped with sliced fruits, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and other ingredients.
It is best eaten in the summer as it is a nice treat to cool down. But don't let it stop you. You can still enjoy bingsu anytime of the year.
The delicious treat dates back to the Joseon dynasty where it was said to have been enjoyed by generals. During that time, the treat was made with crushed ice and topped with fruits and two to three other ingredients.
The modern form of bingsu (that we know today) started in Korea’s first bakery called a taegukdang (태극당) in the year 1946. After the war, many western influences added other varieties to it such as cereal, syrups, and sweeteners.
While you can offer unlimited options for bingsu flavors, there are some common ones that you can find in restaurants.
Here are the most popular bingsu flavors.
Pat-bingsu is the most common bingsu flavor.
It is shaved ice topped with red beans, condensed milk, rice cake squares, and misugaru. Misugaru is a type of powder made from various grains. You can also find it topped with sliced almonds at some stores.
Matcha bingsu is another popular flavor that people love. As the name says, it is matcha-infused shave ice topped with matcha powder, mochi, and red beans.
Strawberry bingsu is popular for people with sweet tooths. It comes with shaved ice topped with sliced strawberries, strawberry syrup, and on special occasions, strawberry ice cream!
Mango bingsu is a sweet and savory bingsu. Similar to other bingsu flavors, it contains shaved ice, sliced mangoes, and mango syrup. Sometimes it’s paired with vanilla ice cream or other ingredients to shake it up a notch!
There are other flavors of bingsu like oreo, chocolate, grapefruit, coffee, watermelon, and so much more. Every restaurant or cafe selling bingsu may have their own unique twist on its flavor.
Sulbing is probably the most popular bingsu cafe with locations found all across Seoul. It has all your classic flavors like strawberry, mango, and red bean. You can also try other desserts at this cafe along with your bingsu.
Address:
Jongno: 2 3 층, 74 종로, Jongno-gu, Seoul
Hours: Varies by place
Phone: Varies by place
This cafe serves unique bingsu. Rather than in a bowl and a rounded shaved ice shape, they serve it similar to Korean noodles. The dish called ShiltaraeBingsu is delicious!
Tokyo Bingsu is a popular bingsu spot. It serves all your classic flavors including a more fun one: tomato bingsu. Surprisingly many customers have said it is quite good with the perfect balance between tomato and sugar.
This bingsu cafe has a more European touch. To be specific, a French touch. If you’re looking for a more high end cafe feel that still serves your favorite desserts, this is the place to be. They are also famous for serving corn bingsu! A definite must try.
If you’re craving bingsu but with a hanok touch, this is the place to go! Located in Bukchon its charming Korean setting will capture your heart and palette. Plus try their grapefruit bingsu flavor!
Bingsu is the perfect dessert to combat the hot and humid summers in South Korea. Cafes and bakeries are bustling with bingsu orders during the summer as many people pool in to cool down. You can even buy bingsu at food stalls.
This recipe is how to make classic pat-bingsu at home.
Done and dusted! Time to enjoy your homemade bingsu!
With so many bingsu cafes to explore, you’ll have to go visit Korea! If you’re ever craving another sweet Korean dessert, make sure to check out what the Daebak Company offers.
My favorite bingsu would have to be strawberry bingsu or a chocolate oreo lucky charms bingsu I tried at a cafe in Gangnam! Bingsu by far is my favorite Korean dessert.
Traditional shaved ice is typically made with a coarser ice texture and flavored syrups, while Korean bingsu is made with a finer ice texture and topped with fruit, condensed milk, and other toppings.
Bingsu has a mild milky flavor, which makes it perfect for adding different toppings like fruit, condensed milk, and ice cream on top.
Bingsu is very popular in Korea during the summer season because it is hot. The cafe culture in Korea also pushes many new flavors of bingsu to be made.

One important thing to note about the 2024 film, however, is that it is now a musical adaptation. So yes, you can expect a lot of singing and dancing in the new film.
But did you know that BLACKPINK inspired one of the choreographies of Mean Girls 2024? Here’s what we know about the BLACKPINK in Mean Girls reference.
In an interview with PopBase, film choreographer, Kyle Hanagami, shared that BLACKPINK served as inspiration for the infamous Christmas recital scene where the girls danced in.
— Pop Base (@PopBase) January 11, 2024
Hanagami shared that he wanted to connect the film with its young viewers, this is why he chose to include choreography from the K-Pop girl group.
“I was like, ‘I feel like this is the generation that grew up watching Blackpink,' So when I was choreographing the Christmas dance, I was like, ‘Let’s put a little bit of inspiration from Blackpink in there.’ So it’s definitely kind of inspired by some of the work that I’ve done for other artists just because I feel like it’s influenced this new generation of performers and actors.”
Kyle Hanagami is a talented and sought-after choreographer in the US and throughout the world.
He previously worked with BLACKPINK to create the group’s iconic dance routines for some of their major hits like DDU-DU DDU-DU, Kill This Love, Ice Cream, BOOMBAYAH, As If It Was Your Last, and Flower by Jisoo.
Aside from working with the girl group, Hanagami worked with other young women who were also part of a foursome. This includes the fictional Plastics group for Mean Girls. Other K-Pop groups he worked with include TWICE, EXO, Girls’ Generation, and aespa.
In the US, Hanagami’s clients include Cnco, Chanel, Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, NSync, and Jennifer Lopez.
No, none of the members of the iconic group are in Mean Girls 2024. But if you watch really closely, the Plastics’ dance steps will remind you of BLACKPINK’s moves too.
Hanagami shared a clip of what the dance moves look like. The video doesn’t feature the stars of the musical but it gives us a glimpse at what the dance steps are.
But, yay for Blinks!

How could we talk about candy without mentioning the beloved classic: the choco pie.
Since the dawn of time, or in 1974 in this case, Koreans have indulged in this sweet, chocolatey treat.
Made of two soft layers, this pie or cake-like cookie is filled with marshmallows and coated in a layer of chocolate… kind of like a Whoopie Pie.
It's best paired with milk, coffee, or tea. It is also an excellent substitute for Smores because of its gooey and pillowy soft interior.
The equivalent to its counterpart, the Japanese Pocky, Pepero is a South Korean biscuit stick coated in various types of flavors, most famously, chocolate and almond.
Created by Lotte Wellfood Co. (formerly known as Lotte Confectionery) in 1983, this candy has gained immense popularity due to its convenient packaging and delicious taste.
It has also been modeled alongside familiar faces such as IU and the newest it girl group, NewJeans.
The country has also considered November 11th, or 11/11, used to resemble the stick's shape, as Pepero Day. Locals celebrate this day by giving Pepero to their friends.
If you've ever been on the streets of South Korea, you might have seen this pancake.
Also called a sweet Korean pancake, this is a snack made from wheat flour dough and filled with sugar, honey, peanuts, or cinnamon. The dough is flattened on a griddle and served piping hot, which is the perfect treat on a cold day.
Best eaten alone or paired with a scoop of ice cream, this Korean street food treasure is perfect for chilly days because it'll warm you right up!
If you regularly watch K-Dramas, you might have seen this candy being eaten by your favorite celebrities.
As seen on famous K-Dramas like Vincenzo or Hometown Cha Cha Cha, this candy will energize you instantly.
Kopiko is made from natural coffee extracted from Hawaiian-grown coffee beans.
Because of its popularity, it is often mistaken for a Korean-made product. In truth, the candy was created in Indonesia.
Because of Koreans' love for coffee, this sweet candy has become a staple in the country.
Sourced from high-quality cocoa beans in Ghana, a country in West Africa, this rich and flavorful cocoa is appreciated by those who prefer a premium and delicious chocolate taste.
This snack can be enjoyed as is and can even be used for baking since it adds depth and richness to cakes, cookies, or brownies. You can pair it with nuts, fruits, and a glass of wine to enhance the overall experience.
It has also been seen in multiple ads endorsed by a handful of celebrities such as IU, Wanna One, Park Bo-Gum, and Seventeen.

A piece of jewelry can make or break your outfit. Many different types of jewelry enhance a look depending on its type and design. If taken care of properly, jewelry can last for years.
Let’s learn how to preserve your K-Fashion jewelry properly to keep our beloved jewels in good condition.
Table of content
When caring for jewelry, it is better to avoid harsh treatments and cleaners. Jewelry cleaners are designed for use on authentic metals.
If you plan to clean your K-Fashion it is not recommended to use a cleaner. But if you plan on using one, make sure that your jewelry is made from precious metals and not coated silver, gold, or platinum.
When it comes to wearing jewelry, the unspoken rule is that jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.
Not only does this help prolong your jewelry's quality, but it also prevents it from getting in contact with harmful substances like lotions or perfumes.
This practice can preserve your jewelry and keep it tarnish-free. Taking off your jewelry before your clothes ensures that they won’t get stuck or snagged on any clothing items ruining both your jewelry and a nice cardigan that you love.
Jewelry is very sensitive and should not be mixed with harsh chemicals. Avoid any activity where the jewelry could react with a substance. This includes hot springs, spas, doing the dishes, laundry, bathing, and swimming.
Some of these activities include the use of harsh products that can change the color of your jewelry when it comes in contact with it. Chlorine is bad for jewelry as it reacts with the metals and increases the chances of tarnishing. These substances can also take off the finish of your jewelry, something you should avoid.
You should also avoid wearing your K-Fashion jewelry when cooking and gardening if you want to keep your jewelry in pristine condition. Don’t sleep in jewelry to ensure that it doesn’t break or get lost.
It is always recommended to clean your jewelry before use or storage. A good habit would be to clean your K-Fashion jewelry several times a month or as needed.
Properly storing your jewelry can greatly enhance its condition. If you do not store your jewelry properly, it can quickly deteriorate. Here are some tips to remember:
Make sure to disinfect your K-Fashion jewelry after purchase. You don’t know where other people’s hands have been when handling your recently purchased item.
You can easily disinfect jewelry by boiling it in a pot on the stove for 30 minutes and drying it thoroughly. Don’t forget to store it properly!
Some jewelry pieces are meant to change color and gain character over time. For example some jewelry is designed to patina, the green film on copper or bronze, over time. In this case, avoid polishing these pieces.
While this may seem like a no-brainer, it is an important reminder. When you are changing your jewelry or adjusting it, always make sure that your sink drain is closed so that your jewelry doesn't slip to the drain accidentally.
Has your silver jewelry gotten darker in color since wearing it? Here is a quick tip on how to make your silver jewelry brighter. Make sure that your jewelry is sterling silver or else it could greatly affect your jewelry.
NOTE: Brass retains water spots – so always dry it immediately!
Alternatively, you can cut a lemon in half and sprinkle some salt on top of it. then rub it over the brass. Continue to step Five and Six!
K-Fashion jewelry pieces are an important fashion statement that can heighten a basic outfit. We hope these tips will help you to maintain the lifespan of your jewelry.

Ever wondered what games Koreans play during their free time? In this article, we'll be introducing a traditional board game called Yut Nori (윷놀이)?
Join the Daebak Company as we explain more information about this traditional board game, how to play Yut Nori, and how to win.
The game, Yut Nori, is a traditional board game that has been played in Korea for thousands of years. But over the years, Yut Nori has undergone multiple changes.
It was normally played during Korea’s most special holidays, the Lunar New Year (설날 or Seollal) and Chuseok (추석).
The game is seen as an opportunity for family and community bonding. It can be played by many people of all ages. Yut Nori was played as an expression of hope for an abundant harvest in the fall and an opportunity for lots of laughter.
To play Yut Nori you will need several pieces. Here's what you need to know about the pieces of the game:
First, you will need a game board called mal-pan or 말판. Historically, this was made from stitched cloth and came in a round shape. In modern times, it is rectangular.
Many Yut Nori game packs come with one game board. You can also make your own by printing one online. You can make it as big as you like as long as it can hold all the game pieces.
The board consists of four straight lines and two diagonal ones that go through the middle. Each line has four spaces.
The game board has a total of 29 spaces. You can move from left to right diagonal and bottom-up. The mal-pan also has a home space, this is where all pieces will begin and end in the game.
Next, you will need the Yut sticks, which are also called jang-jak yut (장작 윷). These are four small wooden sticks with a curved side and a flat side on either end.
The Yut sticks act as the dice and determine how many spaces you can move for each turn. The flat and round sides symbolize the balance between yin and yang.
Lastly, you will need game pieces called mal (말).
You can use any game pieces, such as coins, buttons, chess pieces, or other materials.
Each team needs four pieces that should be distinguishable from the opposing team.
Let's get down to how to play Yut Nori.
Yut Nori is played by two teams who take turns throwing the Yut sticks and moving their pieces (mal).
On every turn, your team can choose to move one game piece on the board. There are many routes you can take around the board. There is no specific path you can take.
The only goal is that you try to get each of your pieces around the board and back to your home base.
There is no limit on the size of each team. When it is your turn, a player will throw the Yut sticks into the air and wait for them to land. The number of spaces you move your piece will be determined by the Yut sticks. Each combination has a different name.
Here are some important things to remember when playing Yut Nori:
The first team to get their pieces all around the board and back home wins the game!
You can also check out this video from the Gateway Korea Foundation.
Now that you know how to play the traditional Korean game Yut Nori, you can challenge all of your friends and family to a game yourself.
As the Lunar New Year comes closer, we hope that you have a blast and introduce more people to this fun family game.
