Seventeen 10th Mini Album 'FML'

seventeen

Seventeen has just come back with their 10th mini album, 'FML.'

Seventeen is a 13-member idol group under Pledis Entertainment and HYBE Labels and is made up of three teams: the Vocal, Performance, and Hip-Hop teams.

The record-breaking group debuted in 2015 with their track "Adore U," and has since built up a reputation in the kpop industry for being one of the most influential self-producing groups.

Nearly all of Seventeen's songs have been produced, written, and composed by the thirteen members, as well as many of their choreographies, showing that they are a multi-talented group of dedicated performers, even after eight years of being in the industry.

The tenth mini-album features six new songs, two of which serve as title tracks, which include "F*ck My Life" and "Super."

The album also gained a lot of attention in South Korea for setting a new record for most pre-ordered albums, reaching 4.64 million copies, a milestone no other group has hit before!

So, if you are looking for new songs to add to your playlist, or want to learn more about one of kpop's most successful male idol groups, keep reading for a review of Seventeen's latest mini album, 'FML.'

‘FML’ Tracklist

1. F*ck My Life (Title Track #1)

This track kicks off the album with an aggressive title and groovy sound but has very meaningful lyrics that many people can relate to.

The song talks about wanting to find yourself, even if the world around you seems dull and broken.

The track repeats the lyric “fight for my life,” which ties into this theme of wanting to keep pushing through, even when times are tough.

“F*ck My Life” is definitely going to be one of Seventeen’s new comfort songs for both the group and their fans, and was a great way to begin their new album!

2. Super (Title Track #2)

Super, without a doubt, should be in the running for this year's Song of the Year award. No other song from this album matches the energy and scale of production that this song has.

With lyrics written by Seventeen's main producer and vocal team leader, Woozi, and members Hoshi, S.Coups, and Vernon, this track has an addicting sound, and each member executes their portion of the song perfectly, with their rappers singing and their vocalists rapping.

With their impressive synchronization and complex choreography, many other kpop idols in the industry have been taking part in the 'Super' dance challenge, including MONSTAX's Hyungwon, Kep1er's Dayeon and Youngeun, and Leejung Lee, to name a few.

The MV for 'Super' currently sits at over 46 million views, just one week after its release!

3. Fire (Hip-Hop Team)

'Fire' is a track sung by Seventeen's Hip-Hop team, which consists of Seventeen's main leader S.Coups, and members Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon. The track has a different feel than the rest of the album, with the lyrics alluding to their success since they debuted.

This song goes heavy on the instrumentals, so the diss-track-type lyrics match the vibe.

Hip-Hop team member Vernon sings one of my favorite lines in the song when he says, "been touring domes now haven't you heard now." This line specifically slams their haters since they can finally prove what they have achieved.

4. I Don’t Understand But I Luv U (Performance Team)

This song has no reason to slap as hard as it does! Not only does it show the performance team’s vocal color and ability, but it makes me excited to see what the dance will look like.

The song opens with an electric guitar and then leads into sounding like a 90s R&B track, showing a side of the performance team that fans haven’t seen before, making you want to keep replaying the song.

The song was also inspired by what a fan commented while the group was on a live since they couldn’t understand what they were saying but didn’t care because they love them anyway, which makes it even more meaningful.

As one of my favorite songs on the album, I can only anticipate Seventeen performing this on tour or even releasing a dance practice or video for it!

5. Dust (Vocal Team)

This song is sung by Seventeen's vocal unit, which includes Woozi, the vocal team leader and main producer of the group, and members Jeonghan, Joshua, DK, and Seungkwan.

The track has a nostalgic feel to it, bringing in many sounds associated with 80's disco music. I could see this song being used as an OST with how catchy the beat is!

The lyrics are also lowkey sad, which contrasts the upbeat and retro sound of the song, but they are also hopeful in that they talk about still having feelings for someone even if they don't want them.

The song's lyrics could be thought about in terms of a relationship or friendship since you may lose someone who played a significant role in your life, but your good memories of them and with them still linger.

6. April Shower

The final track on Seventeen's tenth mini album, 'FML,' is the song 'April Shower.'

This song closes the album on a high note, with upbeat instrumentals and sentimental-feeling lyrics.

'April Shower' is the type of song you can listen to when driving with the windows rolled down after a storm passes, as it has a warm, refreshing feel.

I also really liked that they referenced their song "Rock with you" in this track, as it was the title track of their previous mini album!

Ultimately, 'April Shower' wraps up the 'FML' album beautifully and even comes full circle lyrically since it starts and ends with the same lines, tying into the idea that the sun will come out again after it rains.
