Introduction
You may have seen people all over the internet travel to Korea to get a personal color analysis. It has become one of the most popular beauty experiences for both foreigners and locals. Want to learn more about what a personal color analysis is and whether it's really worth booking during your trip to Korea?
What Is a Personal Color Analysis?
A personal color analysis is a service designed to identify the colors that best complement your natural features. The consultant may cover up your hair first so it doesn't affect the analysis. Different colored fabric drapes are placed beneath your face and during the service you can see the differences in the mirror in front of you. During the consultation, the consultant will determine whether your undertone is cool, warm, or neutral. They can then recommend hair colors, makeup shades, and color palettes that will make you look brighter, healthier, and enhance your natural features.
The Four Seasonal Color Types

You may have heard of the seasonal color types. These four seasons are the basic foundation of personal color analysis. Below is a breakdown of each main color season:
- Spring – Warm, light, and bright colors that create a fresh and vibrant look.
- Summer – Cool, soft, and muted colors that give a natural and elegant appearance.
- Autumn – Warm, rich, and earthy colors that add depth and warmth.
- Winter – Cool, bold, and high-contrast colors that create a striking and dramatic look.
Some consultants may even go into more detail by dividing these into up to 16 sub-seasons, providing a more personalized and detailed analysis based on your unique features. After the service, studios will either provide you with a printed or digital color palette that you can take home and use for future reference.

How Much Does It Cost?
So, how much does a personal color analysis in Korea actually cost? The truth is, it does vary. It depends on the duration of the service, the total depth of details and brand name.
When looking into different options, prices typically range from ₩70,000–120,000 (around $50–84 USD) for a basic consultation and ₩120,000–250,000+ (around $83–175 USD) for a premium package. If you're looking to splurge, premium consultations often provide a more in-depth analysis, including personalized recommendations for your style, makeup, accessories, hair color, and even shopping advice.
Additionally, you may be able to find free color analysis services or machines at Olive Young’s flagship locations in Gangnam and Seongsu, as well as at Beauty Play and MimiLine in Myeongdong.
Is It Worth Getting a Color Analysis in Korea?

I booked an appointment within the first few days that I was in Korea. This way, when I shop for clothes or beauty products, I can easily identify what best matches my color palette. Prior to the service, I already had an idea of my undertone and the color palette I might fall into. What was unique is that the service I had done also gave me tips on how to apply my makeup to my face shape, along with hairstyles that would suit me. I walked away with a much better understanding of which colors and styles suit me. As part of the service, I also left with samples of products that match my palette as well!
All in all, you do not necessarily have to change up your whole wardrobe or recreate your whole look because of the results. It is good to offer a template and general idea for what colors better fit, but as long as you are comfortable and satisfied in what you are currently wearing then don’t stress too much about the results if they do not match the color analysis palette that you were given.
I would highly recommend doing your research to see what exactly you are looking for as well as what services each place offers as they can vary. Prices do vary as well but foreigners can find good deals on international services such as Klook and Creatrip.
Tips Before You Go
A good tip is to book your appointment in advance. Depending on the business you book with, there may be limited openings or times. It is good to have it booked before your trip to Korea. Since consultants will need to see your bare skin to determine your colors, it is best to come with very little to no makeup. In my case, the place I went to had face cleansers and wipes to take off your makeup before. But, sticking with simple products such as moisturizer and sunscreen is best since it will give you better results. For foreigners a lot of the time there are options to select an English interpreter or it is included in the service for an additional price. You will want to read into the details before you book your appointment to understand what you are paying for.
Final Thoughts
If you're looking for a unique beauty experience during your trip to Korea, a personal color analysis is definitely worth considering. If you’re visiting Korea, consider booking an appointment to discover which colors work best for you. It can save you time, money, and effort in the future by helping you make more informed choices about clothing, makeup, and beauty products. Even if you don't follow every recommendation, you'll leave with a better understanding of which colors make you look and feel your best.
