BTS Talks about Asian Hate at the White House Press Briefing

BTS Talks about Asian Hate at the White House Press Briefing - The Daebak Company

BTS made a historic appearance at the White House on May 31, 2022, ahead of meeting U.S. President Joe Biden.

On the last day of AANHPI (Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), each BTS member gave brief remarks about Asian hate crimes, diversity, inclusion, and representation. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre introduced the group as pop phenoms and Grammy-nominated international youth ambassadors.

RM thanked Karine Jean-Pierre for her kind words and introduced what they will be discussing for the press conference at the White House. Followed by Jin strengthening their goals to commemorate and stand together with the AANHPI community.

Next to the microphone was Jimin, who told them how devastated and shocked they were with the recent surge in hate crimes against Asians. Jhope continued to voice out how they were honored to be able to speak up because of their music and the love they get from ARMYs, who consist of different nationalities, cultures, and languages.

Jungkook chimed in about how it feels incredible that Korean music can transcend language and culture and shared how music brings people together. Then, Suga offers a statement about how embracing diversity brings about equality. V hoped that today marks a step in respecting and acknowledging everyone as a valuable person.

Finally, RM went back to the podium and thanked President Biden and the White House for the opportunity of letting them speak about important causes and what artists can do to help.

Before their appearance in the White House, the Kpop group partnered with UNICEF in 2017 for an anti-violence campaign: LOVE MYSELF. They continued to raise awareness and funds for this campaign from the Love Myself merchandise and a portion of LOVE YOURSELF HER, TEAR, and ANSWER album sales.

Then, on September 24, 2018, they became the first boy band to address the United Nations. RM mainly spoke about their struggles as a group and how they accepted their mistakes.

In July 2021, BTS was appointed special presidential envoys by then-President of South Korea, Moon Jae In. That following September, the group joined Moon Jae In at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly and shared a message of hope for youth amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

They’re bringing back their history and introducing themselves again through their comeback album “PROOF,” which combines their favorite songs from their discography and new songs for ARMYs worldwide. Don’t miss out on this BTS Kpop merch when you visit The Daebak Company.
