Everyday Salads with a Korean Twist! 🥗 - The Daebak Company

Salads. Not only are they delicious, they’re also super healthy and so varied it is hard to choose a favourite. However, after a summer full of fresh salad, some recipes begin to become old, and it becomes harder to find a new flavor to fill your stomach in the happiest way possible. We have your back! Here is a list of the most popular and common salads, but with a Korean twist to them. You get the best of both worlds—your favourite salads mixed with one of the most flavorful and nutritious cuisines in the world!

  • Caesar Salad

This classic salad normally comes with lettuce, chicken, croutons and parmesan cheese. Exchange the plain chicken to buldak (Korean-style fire chicken with cheese) to add more flavor to this delicious salad, and here is a recipe. Instead of croutons, add tofu. It can be plain, or marinated in a sauce (for example, soy sauce, lemon juice, honey, garlic and ginger make a delicious marinade for tofu). Adding avocado might add extra flavor and color to the salad.

  • Greek Salad

A traditional greek salad has olives, tomatoes, feta cheese, bell pepper and cucumber on a lettuce base. Although a delicious salad, consider this alternative. Replace the olives and feta cheese for the well-loved Korean topping - corn cheese. Then, instead of the vegetables mentioned above, which are found a lot in Mediterranean cuisine, add more traditionally Korean vegetables, such as lotus root, courgette, and spring onions.

  • Roasted Vegetable Salad

Roasted vegetables, bacon, pine nuts and balsamic glaze on lettuce sounds heavenly, right? Spice it up with kimchi (mix up the different kinds!), grilled pork belly, mung bean sprouts, with a drizzle of cho gochujang. The mixture will make an unforgettable spicy salad you can brag about to all your friends.

  • Pesto Pasta Salad

Nothing is better than a good pesto pasta salad at the beach, with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, pine nuts and pesto sauce cooling you down instantly. Nothing? Try changing the pasta to soba noodles (freshly made is a bonus!), lotus root, spring onion, mung bean sprouts and a simple soya sauce dressing. It will feel like you are at Haeundae Beach!

  • Smoked Salmon Salad

A simple salad; the smoked salmon with avocado make an amazing mix, appealing to all people. However, switching smoked salmon to fresh salmon, and adding cho ganjang, will not only add more flavor, but will also taste super fresh, almost as if you caught the fish yourself in a Korean river in the forests!

  • Fruit Salad

Fruit salads vary from region to region, depending on what fruit is available. In Canada or the UK, they are very berry based; the Mediterranean countries have pomegranates, figs, oranges, peaches, melon and nectarines; tropical countries have bananas, mangoes, pineapples, watermelons and coconuts. Whichever country you are from, it is undeniable that fruit salads are a favourite for all kinds of people. South Korea does not fall short of its own fruit, with fruits such as persimmon, yuja, plums, cherries, pine fruits and pomegranate.

This concludes the list of salads with a Korean twist. There are so many different salads that can be tweaked with Korean ingredients! Which do you prefer, the original or the Korean version? Which sounds more appetising? Let us know in the comments below!
