YESSSSSSS IT’S TRUE, EXO ARE BACK!
The SM legendary group have just made their newest comeback on June 7th with a special album titled ‘DON’T FIGHT THE FEELING’. And trust me when I say none of us will FIGHT THE FEELING of losing our minds over this album…
Honestly, 2019 was way too long ago and I’m sure everyone was more than ready for their next comeback, and man have EXO-L’s had their fair share of those… Just check out this tweet a fan posted:
Needless to say, these guys always deliver. So, in honour of the groups recent comeback, let’s look back at some of their greatest career achievements in the past 9 years since their debut in 2012.
EXO’s First Music Show Win
How time flies by! It might be hard for some of you to imagine a world before EXO’s endless awards and countless records, but there was a time before all of the fame, when the group were just starting off. Back in 2013, after the release of their hit song ‘Wolf’, EXO won their first music show award from KBS Music Bank. Now I will warn you, their acceptance speech is super emotional, so make sure you grab a box of tissues before you click play!
Album of the Year winners 5 times in a row!
WOW! It’s just so clear how much of an impact EXO have on the K-pop industry with achievements like this. Reigning with their albums XOXO, Overdose, Exodus, Ex’Act, and The War, EXO managed to land the title of ‘Album of the Year’ for five years straight at the MAMAs, only being dethroned by BTS in 2018 which means they currently hold the Guinness World record with a total of 6 daesang Mnet Asian Music Awards. In their time of domination, EXO beat acts as good as Big Bang, Twice, BTS, Girls Generation, Super Junior and Seventeen. I mean talk about talent, its like they have superpowers!
It’s true, we all hate seeing those worlds, but it must be acknowledged. Despite being one of the top performers in the industry, military service is inevitable for 8 of the 9 members of EXO as every male Korean citizen must enlist before they turn 28 years old. Currently this new album will be promoted by 6 of the 9 members as Suho and Chen are still serving their military time, and Lay is overseas working on his solo career (with talks of special appearances on the way). Despite the changes in their line-ups over the years, and with Baekhyun and Chanyeol recently enlisting for service in the last few months, EXO still manage to be a driving force in the music industry, and for that reason, their military service, and ability to still stay as high achieving as they have, is yet another great achievement for the group.
EXO at the Olympics
I MEAN… Joining One Direction, Queen, CL and other superstars, EXO entered the ‘Hall of Olympic Performances’ when they were asked to present at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic closing ceremony… And boy did they SMASH IT! Flawlessly singing and dancing their hit singles ‘Growl’ and ‘Power’ accompanied by a giant firework show, EXO made a mark not only for South Korea, but also gained even more global recognition and managed to expand their already massive fanbase. The band was picked not only for their recent success, but also for their multicultural unity, particularly in Asian nations, through their diverse range of music in languages such as Korean, Mandarin and Japanese. It can’t be denied, EXO were an honourable and clever choice to performances for the Olympic games.
It’s no secret that the members of EXO have zero trouble breaking into the music charts and entertainment industry themselves, creating their own individual brands outside of the group and within their own sub-unit clusters. This not only includes debuting their own mini albums and hit singles, but some members have also decided to expand to the K-drama route, exploring their talents in acting. If you haven’t, go check out the individual work of each of the members, it’s a deep rabbit hole to go down, but SOOOOO worth it!
Now that we have looked back at the group’s past achievements, lets focus on the what’s happening in the present. EXO have just released their MV for 'Don't fight the feeling' and lets just say its out of this world!! If you haven't already, check it out below:
