5 Korean Snacks to Warm You Up This Winter
Hyunwoo ChoPartager
It is officially winter, which means staying inside, cuddling up in warm blankets and fuzzy socks, and binge-watching your favorite K-drama. Do you know what would make the winter binge-watching even better? Snacks. These five Korean snacks will warm your body temperature up while the outside temperature plummets.
Ramen
Ramen is a go-to snack for many people, especially during the winter months. The hot broth alone hits the spot, and the noodles are an added yummy bonus. You can choose any flavour and any spice level to help you warm up, from a mild seafood ramyeon to a fiery Buldak. Pop the lid, stir in an egg or some sliced cheese, and you have a one-pot winter rescue ready in minutes.
Hot Brew Coffee by Babinski
There are a plethora of coffee flavours on the market, and some of them even come with K-pop idols' faces on the bottle. The BTS Hot Brew by Babinski is the most famous example. The hot brew comes in one flavour, Americano, but you can choose which member you want, from RM to Jungkook. Microwave the bottle for a quick winter coffee that pulls double duty as ARMY merch.
Yuja Tea
This traditional Korean tea is made from yuja (citron) marmalade that you mix into hot water. Not only does this tea warm you up, it also has many health benefits. Yuja is packed with vitamin C, can help with digestion, may help lower blood pressure, and is often used to soothe common colds during winter. The sweet, floral aroma alone makes it feel like a hug in a mug.
Samyang Tteokbokki
This style of tteokbokki is perfect for a winter snack. The rice cakes will instantly warm you up, and the cup size is just right to hold and eat while curled up on the couch. All you have to do is add hot water to the fill line, microwave for a few minutes, and you have a delicious snack to indulge in. Samyang offers hot original, chicken, and an extremely spicy Buldak version. A little snack hack: add your tteokbokki to your ramen for another level of flavour.
Hoppang (Steamed Buns)
Hoppangs are the convenience-store version of jjinppang. They are steamed buns stuffed with a variety of fillings, with savory options like meat, vegetables, and cheese, plus sweet red bean paste for a dessert version. These steamed buns are kept warm in heated cases at every Korean convenience store, glowing under the counter, making them the perfect grab-and-go snack on your walk home this winter.
The Last Bite
These are all great snacks on any day, but they make the cold months a little easier (and tastier) to get through. Stack a few in your pantry, queue up your next K-drama, and let the snow keep falling outside. What are some of your favorite winter snacks? Let us know in the comments below.
