Bae Doona, born on October 11, 1979, is a South Korean actress and photographer. She became globally known for her roles in Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance (2002), The Host (2006), and Air Doll (2009). She also had a few English-speaking roles in Cloud Atlas (2012), Jupiter Ascending (2015), and Sense8 (2015).

At the beginning of her career, Bae Doona started as a model in 1998 but then switched to pursue acting. As soon as she graduated from Hanyang University, she got her first role as a ghost in The Ring Venus, a Korean remake of the Japanese horror film Ring.

Barking Dogs Never Bite (2002) is an independent dark comedy directed by Bong Joon-ho. The film stars Lee Sung-Jae as a college professor who lost his job and is easily irritated by barking dogs' sound in his apartment complex. A young woman played by Bae Doona works at the apartment complex, and she starts to investigate who is stealing dogs in the apartment complex. Director Bong Joon-ho said he cast Bae Doona because she was the only actress who was willing to act without makeup.

Sympathy For Mr.Vengeance (2002)

The second film is Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance (2002), directed by Park Chan-wook. The film stars Shin Ha-Kyun as Ryu, a young deaf-mute factory worker trying to earn money for his sister's kidney transplant. The only way to do that is by holding the daughter of a wealthy man for ransom, and it does not go actually to plan. The film cast also involves Song Kang-ho, Bae Doona, Han Bo-bae, Im Ji-Eun.

The Host (2006)

One of Bae Doona's iconic role was in The Host (2006), directed by Bong Joon-ho. The film is about a monster kidnapping a man's daughter and his attempt to save her no matter what. It was a Bong Joon-ho highest-grossing film at the South Korea box office.

A Girl at My Door (2014)

Bae Doona starred in the 2014 film A Girl at My Door, directed by July Jung. She plays a small-town officer who tries to save a mysterious young girl from her abusive father. It was one of Bae's challenging roles because the story was so fascinating to her.

Bae Doona plays a physician's assistant in the South Korean drama. Kingdom. Her character desperately seeks to find a cure to stop the virus that is affecting the entire population.
