The Daebak New Release Review: BORN PINK Album

The Daebak New Release Review: BORN PINK Album - The Daebak Company

*BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA*

Blackpink has finally made their comeback after two years with BORN PINK album!

After releasing solo music projects and making their acting debuts since their last release, THE ALBUM in 2020, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa have “Shut Down” the KPOP industry once again with their latest tracks.

Below, I review the group's eight newest songs on the BORN PINK album, so keep reading if you are the “Typa Girl” looking for new music to add to your playlists!

Blackpink's BORN PINK Album Tracklist

1. Pink Venom (BORN PINK Album Pre-Release Single)

‘Pink Venom,’ the pre-released single off of ‘BORN PINK’ album, was one of Kpop’s most anticipated songs of the summer at the time of its release.

Starting off the song with the traditional Korean string instrument, the Geomungo, in which Blackpink’s Jisoo is seen playing at the beginning of the video, the group earned praise from domestic and international fans alike for promoting Korean culture for millions around the world to see.

With the deep and melodic instrumentals and the girls' impressive vocals and rap, it is no surprise that the song has garnered over 300 million views on YouTube since its release and remains the #1 global top music video on the platform.

2. Shut Down (BORN PINK Album Title Track)

With ‘Shut Down’ being the title track of the Blackpink album and having to come after ‘Pink Venom,’ it indeed met the standard that the pre-release track had set for the rest of the album and added the perfect amount of savageness that the group is known for.

With the first line of lyrics saying, “It’s not a comeback since we’ve never left,” they are reminding fans and haters alike that they are here to stay and dominate the Kpop industry.

The song is essentially the diss track of the album and helps prove why they deserve their success as they continue to “shut it down.”

3. Typa Girl

‘Typa Girl’ is the first of the four all-English tracks from the Blackpink BORN PINK album.

This is the type of song I would imagine people going through their villain era would be listening to since it is quite the cold-blooded song.

My personal favorite line in the track is, “I bring money to the table, not your dinner,” as it demolishes gender stereotypes and solidifies their savageness.

4. Yeah Yeah Yeah

This song from the Born Pink album has a very retro-pop vibe and is the type of song I could see being played in the movie's opening scene when the main character is being introduced.

While the song itself is upbeat and melodic, the lyrics are very vulnerable and reflect the emotions someone feels when they are unsure if someone loves them back.

The track was also co-written by Rosé and Jisoo, showing both their vocal abilities and songwriting expertise.

5. Hard to Love

‘Hard to love’ is the only solo song on the Born Pink album sung by none other than Blackpink’s main vocalist, Rosé.

This song could have one hundred percent gone onto Rosé’s solo album, “R,” but it fits the vibe of BORN PINK perfectly.

The song highlights her unique vocals, and she also tells a heartbreaker's story with lyrics that say, "Don't fall too hard 'cause I'm hard to love."

This is definitely a unique concept for a unique voice, which is why it fits so well with Rosé.

6. The Happiest Girl

I’d say this is one of Blackpink’s most emotional songs out of their entire discography.

Although it talks about being the happiest girl in the world, the song’s tone is very much the opposite, with piano and string instruments playing in the background of their sentimental vocals and lyrics.

I would listen to this type of song in Blackpink's Born Pink album if I was in my feelings on a rainy day, staring out the window while trying to be the main character.

7. Tally

‘Tally’ is for sure a clap back at the haters.

With lyrics like “I’m not gonna change ‘cause you say so,” this song is their way of telling people that they are going to do them no matter what.

It is also an explicit song, proving that the women of Blackpink don’t care what their haters think of them since they are going to do what they want anyway, whether they like them or not.

8. Ready For Love

'Ready for love' is the Born Pink album's last track, closing it off with a bang as an upbeat dance-pop song.

The track was actually the first to be released off of the album in collaboration with PUBG MOBILE for a virtual concert in July 2022.

As one of the Born Pink album's more cheerful, positive songs, it ends the album with one of the group's signature party choruses that make you want to get up and dance.

Here are my rankings of the songs off of the BORN PINK album:

  1. Shut Down

  2. Typa Girl

  3. Pink Venom

  4. Yeah Yeah Yeah

  5. Tally

  6. Ready For Love

  7. Hard to Love

  8. The Happiest Girl (Side Note: I only rank this last because it makes me cry! It is a beautifully written song.)
