EXO is a boy group formed by SM Entertainment in 2011. The group made its debut in April 2012 with twelve members divided into two subgroups: EXO-K (Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Kai, D.O., and Sehun) and EXO-M ( Xiumin, Chen, Lay, Kris, Tao, and Luhan), to promote music in Korea and China, respectively.

Their first album in 2013 was titled XOXO, which featured the song "Growl." EXO currently has nine members (Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Kai, Sehun, and D.O.), making them the group with the most album sales in South Korea.

The second subgroup is EXO-SC, made up of Sehun and Chanyeol. Likewise, the name originates from the initials of its members, and the said subunit debuted on July 22, 2019, with the mini album What a Life.

After his return from military service, Xiumin made his solo performance on September 26, unveiling his first mini album with a photobook version titled Brand New, a new project with a lot of colors, energy, and a very retro style from the 90s and 2000s.

In his style, the songs titled "Brand New," "Feedback," "How We Do," "Love Letter," and "Serenity" were pieces with an old-school vibe dance and an addictive feeling, where the lyrics wittily expressed a man's promise of showing his renewed side in a real essence for who he is.

EXO's vocalist and rapper's love for K-pop and Y2K music influenced his songs from the solo album. Xiumin's Brand New album is a true memory of a teenage time of millennium pop and futuristic R&B.

For him, the music style of that time was relatively simple. It evoked many emotions while being easy to listen to, a good source of inspiration when creating his musical pieces, which contain a bit of the past that will make you remember or live how trends were back then.

After working in the music industry for a decade, Xiumin felt a big responsibility for having to sing and write songs from beginning to end without other bandmates. Nevertheless, this first solo album completely captures his musical tastes, becoming a hit of the moment that made us feel good knowing his new image.
