The Types of Animal Cafés You’ll Find

You start off with cat cafés, where cats sleep on ledges and happily receive head scratches as you sip your latte. There are dog cafés, of course, if you miss your own pets. But Seoul does better than that: you can go to raccoon cafés, where raccoons frolic, and the well-known Thanks Nature Café in Hongdae, where real sheep graze outside. For the more adventurous, there are even parrot and meerkat cafés, offering a truly unique experience you’ll rarely find elsewhere.

Why They’re So Popular

In a metropolis where apartment buildings do not allow pets, animal cafés give people a chance to enjoy the company of animals without long-term responsibility. They also nicely mesh with Korea's love for aegyo (cute) and make everyday life a little brighter. For tourists, such cafés are not just about coffee, they're about stepping into a world where the atmosphere is fun, welcoming, and uniquely Korean.
