Dark Side of Seoul Ghost Tour
Halloween is very popular in Western countries, and is increasing in popularity within South Korea. This surge in popularity has brought about the creation of the Dark Side of Seoul Ghost Tour, a tour around Seoul which will cover murder, ghosts, and scandals from the past 600 years!
If you visit Seoul anytime before or after Halloween, and want to learn some gruesome history, the Dark Side of Seoul is offered all year, but their main season is from March to December. This tour is not offered to children and you must be nineteen years or older to enter. It’s a great place to try with your friends, and if you book a tour on the weekend, you can pay extra for pre-tour chicken and beer!
There are two different tours you can take: the regular edition and an extended version. The regular edition takes 1.5 hours to complete, and there are certain locations that you can only visit, depending on whether it’s a weekday or weekend. During the week the locations you can visit are:
- The site of a gruesome massacre
- The bridge that tells a dark story which those who walk across have no idea about
- A neighborhood where the spirits of prostitutes who met grisly ends reside
- The eerie forgotten alleyway which played an important role in South Korea’s struggle for democracy; Pimatgol Alley
- The tale of Korea’s most notorious serial killer
Here are some additional locations you can only visit on the weekend:
- Korea’s most haunted palace: Gyeonghuigung
- The most haunted house in Seoul
- The street which has so many ghost people claim you cannot take a clear picture at night; Jonggak Avenue of Youth
The extended edition will take about 2.5–3 hours to complete, and you will be able to visit all eight locations that are offered on weekends and weekdays, no matter when you go!
The tour is offered in English, so if you don’t know Korean, you can still enjoy all the stories! Since you will be walking everywhere, comfortable shoes are highly recommended! You can also bring a camera, to capture any sightings of ghosts, a water bottle, and an umbrella if it seems like it could rain!
The prices vary by edition. The regular edition costs $35 and the extended editions cost $42, quite a reasonable price for this chilling history tour of Seoul. The activity starts at 8:00 p.m. every day from Tuesday to Sunday. It’s important to know that the starting location depends on whether you are part of a weekday or a weekend tour. For weekdays, you meet up at Seodaemun Station, exit 4; and for weekends you meet up at Anguk Station, exit 2.
You might not have expected Seoul to have a dark past filled with secrets and ghost stories within its city, but every place has a couple.
