Seventeen Face the Sun Album Review

Seventeen Face the Sun Album Review - The Daebak Company

This past May, the 13-member idol group, Seventeen came out with their 4th full-length album titled 'Face The Sun.' While this is only the group's 4th full-length album in the seven years since their debut, they have also released nine mini albums, which contain a wide array of genres and lyrics for all listeners to enjoy.

With Seventeen currently touring across North America for their 'Be The Sun' World Tour, now is the perfect time to familiarize both Carats, the group's fans, and those who are just starting to learn the members' names with their latest tracks to get a glimpse into what they will be performing at their upcoming shows.

Below is a review of the nine songs off of the album, so continue reading if you want to learn more about Seventeen Face the Sun album and see for yourself if the songs are "HOT" or not; spoiler alert, they are HOT!

Seventeen Face the Sun Album Tracklist

Darl+ing (Face The Sun Album Pre-Release Single)

Darl+ing, the pre-released single of 'Seventeen Face The Sun album,' is one of the only tracks with all English lyrics. The group has released other songs in English, like their song 2 minus 1, but they were sung by the group's two American-born members, Vernon and Joshua, making this a special song for the group's foreign fans.

With lyrics that convey a message about being lonely without someone, it is a song most people can relate to, whether they are longing for a special someone or missing the company of family and friends.

The song was made to heal you when you feel alone, making it a perfect go-to song for anyone who wants to be uplifted by the comforting lyrics and the soothing yet powerful vocals.

HOT (Face The Sun Album Title Track)

HOT, the title track off of 'Face The Sun', is bursting with energy from the get-go, making it a great song if you want to get hyped up. It has a complex choreography and fresh lyrics that make you want to sing along to all of the lyrics.

"HOT" is one of my favorite songs on the album and remains at the top of my go-to playlist. This was a great title track for the group as it shows both their impressive vocals and the group's ability to pull off intense choreographies.

The music video encapsulates what Seventeen is, a group of all-rounders who treat every performance as if it is their last, making it a song you don't want to skip.

DON QUIXOTE

This song has proven to be a fan favorite for the message it sends, which is for you to go for what you want to do and believe in yourself when others might think you're crazy.

With motivating lyrics and the song's overall vibe, I imagine people listening to it during a workout or while trying to study since it pushes you to get things done.

This song could have 100 percent been a title track, but it fits right in with the rest of the album as well, showing the group's talent to make multiple hits in a single album, and proving why they are recognized as a successful self-producing idol group.

March

I look forward to seeing "March" performed live at the "Be The Sun" concert because of the power it holds from the beginning of the song. The explosive lyrics and sound of the song as a whole make it a force to be reckoned with.

This song has a very fresh sound for Seventeen, and with the rock undertones and their rappers showing off their vocal abilities, it is an excellent transition into a new musical era for the group.

Domino

Domino takes a step back from a more intense and rock-inspired "March," and is a more bubbly, fun song for the group. If you are a fan of the songs Snapshoot or Thinkin' about you, Domino will be right up your alley.

This track is the perfect song for a car ride with friends because of its upbeat tone, and it is also a great summer song that reminds you of nice weather.

While it is a slower track than many other songs on the album, you will still find yourself coming back to it on your playlist whenever you want to hang out with your friends and bring positive vibes.

Shadow

Shadow is a fantastic song with a fast-paced beat and meaningful lyrics about accepting yourself. Appropriately titled "Shadow," the song is about embracing our inner selves that we may be trying to hide.

This song reminds me of Seventeen's track "Kidult" on their album Heng:garæ because they both discuss the aspects of accepting every part of ourselves, even the saddest and most difficult parts.

Not only can the lyrics touch your heart because of their meaning, but the song itself is upbeat, making it a perfect song to listen to anywhere with anyone, whether you are shopping or driving around your neighborhood.

'bout you

This track is another upbeat song off of the album and is guaranteed to get stuck in your head and live there rent-free once you listen to it for the first time.

With most of the tracks on the album having very meaningful and deep lyrics, this song is like a breath of fresh air. It takes you out of the serious tone that the preceding songs set and allows you to chill out and vibe with the lighthearted lyrics.

If you leave me

"IF you leave me" is more of a ballad-style song with a somber feeling, similar to the songs Pinwheel, sung by Seventeen's vocal unit, and Lie Again, which comes off of Seventeen's 3rd album "An Ode."

This song is a must if you are ever in your feelings and need an escape or if you are sitting at the window on a rainy day watching the cars outside drive by.

Ash

I was instantly shocked when I first heard this song because I had never heard a track like it from Seventeen before. It was an entirely new sound for them, and I instantly played it on repeat for weeks! It is comparable to Seventeen's song Gam3 Bo1 since it has the same hip-hop and rap aspects that aren't necessarily seen in the rest of the songs on "Seventeen Face the Sun album."

My favorite parts of the song are Main Vocal Seungkwan's Pre-Chorus verse and Main Rapper Vernon's lines that complete the song's second verse.

I am the type of person that changes my music taste based on the seasons, but I seriously don't think that "Ash" will be leaving my playlist anytime soon.

Here are my rankings of the songs off of the kpop album:

  1. HOT

  2. Ash

  3. DON QUIXOTE

  4. March

  5. Shadow

  6. Domino

  7. 'bout you
