Daebak Forest

Since January 20th 2023

Help us make a positive change.

At Daebak, we prioritize environmental responsibility and acknowledge the impact our company has on it. Thus, we are committed to planting mangrove trees in Madagascar, contributing to the restoration of natural habitats for wildlife species, and combating global warming. For every product you purchase, we will plant one  tree.

How does it work?

For every product purchased through Daebak, we plant one mangrove tree. These trees are planted in collaboration with Eden Reforestation Projects, with whom we have a strong partnership facilitated by TheGoodAPI. Eden actively collaborates with local communities in the countries where they conduct reforestation projects. They guide Eden in identifying planting opportunities and work to restore the commitment of locals to protect the forest.

Why is it important?

‍The destruction of forests results in the loss of natural habitats for wildlife species, forcing them to relocate and limiting their ability to survive. Madagascar stands out as one of the world's foremost conservation priorities, hosting over 200 species of mammals, 100 species of lemurs, 300 species of birds, and almost 300 species of amphibians. Approximately 90% of all wildlife in Madagascar is endemic. Our collaboration with Eden focuses on protecting these unique wildlife species by actively restoring their natural habitats.

Why mangrove trees?

Mangroves are distinctive ecosystems distributed across a broad range in tropical regions, spanning the intertidal areas of more than 120 countries. Mangroves, along with coastal wetlands in general, hold global significance due to their numerous positive impacts on both humans and the planet. Examples include protection against storm surges, serving as nurseries for fish and other marine life, supplying building materials and firewood, and playing a crucial role in stabilizing the global climate by acting as a significant carbon store.

How about global warming?

‍Mangroves serve as remarkable carbon sinks. With the rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions over the last century, the demand for enduring carbon sinks has intensified. According to the latest models, merely reducing emissions and protecting existing forests is insufficient to stay within the bounds of an "acceptable" global temperature increase. Instead, there is a pressing need to significantly enhance the capacity to sequester carbon.

Globally, mangrove systems are estimated to contain an astounding 20 petagrams of carbon. Considering that mangroves represent less than 5% of the world's terrestrial area, they emerge as one of the most crucial carbon stocks, surpassing many rainforests such as the Amazon. Additionally, as a relatively fast-growing group of species, mangroves sequester carbon at an exceptionally rapid rate.
