5 Must-Visit Islands in Korea

5 Must-Visit Islands in Korea - The Daebak Company

Korea is a truly gorgeous country, with fascinating, new things to see around every corner. Despite all the things to do there, did you know that there are a number of little islands just off of the mainland? From small, homely and relaxing, to slightly larger and filled with adventure, each island can fuel you up with excitement! Here are 5 of Korea’s numerous islands that I suggest you may visit during your stay in Korea!

Namiseom Island

This small, half-moon shaped island is only 63km away from the city of Seoul, making it a popular destination for families and couples. It is well known for its beautiful tree-lined roads that allow visitors to take relaxing strolls through the calming, colorful nature. There’s also a range of other activities to do  - water skiing, roller skating, glassblowing, pottery, ziplining, bus and boat touring, going to a small theme park, and visiting multiple small gift and craft shops.

Ulleungdo Island

It’s located in the Sea Of Japan (East Sea) and is also home to the glorious Bongnaepokpo Falls. These falls are known for not only being a famous tourist attraction, but also the only water source for the residents of this island. This beautiful island was created from volcanic ash and spews, giving it some interesting features such as its range of high and low rocky cliffs. There are a variety of hiking trails available, allowing tourists to experience as much of this wonderful island as possible. There are also sightseeing boats and fishing boats that operate throughout the day. It’s true that the scenery of this place truly is heavenly.

Ganghwa Island

Ganghwa Island, the fifth largest island in Korea, is located in the West Sea. It is home to a range of historical artifacts, like palaces and the famous Goindol Rocks, that have been there from the Prehistoric era. Goindol Rocks are graves that were made for the rulers of the island during the Bronze age and there are said to be around 80 stones. There is also a very interesting ‘Upside Down House’, with the roof in the ground and the base of the house facing the sky. The artist created it to challenge the idea that everything should have to be upright. Don’t worry though, the interior is right side up. Once again we have another island with some amazing scenery and quirky attractions. And once again, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Oedo Island

If you want to be immersed in the beautiful scenes of nature, then be sure to give this island a visit. A long time ago, this island only existed full of unattractive rock and dirt. However, in 1969, a man named Lee Chang-Ho and his wife travelled here in their boat and, from there, decided to fill this island with some colour and life. From this, the beautiful Oedo Botania was created, a gorgeous botanical garden with some uniquely shaped trees and plants of all shapes and sizes! By the summer time, a variety of gorgeous flowers grow and display their magnificent colours to amaze the tourists. What’s more is that this garden overlooks the gorgeous blue sea that surrounds the island - a truly serene place to visit. I think it’s safe to say that this island is just a whole masterpiece.

Jeju Island

And finally, the island that everyone’s heard of: Jeju! This place is one of the largest tourist destinations in Korea and has even been designated as a Special Tourist Zone by the Korean Government. There are a number of things that you can do here, from staying local and visiting gift shops and collecting some souvenirs for the family, to doing some casual wide range exploring, hiking through the gorgeous hills of Jeju! The unique climate here also means there are a variety of interesting plants and, of course, a stunning view of the surrounding ocean.
