Brave girls are ‘Rollin’ back into the spotlight with their 2017 single - The Daebak Company

ROLLIN’ ROLLIN’ ROLLEEEE into our top playlists is the underdog girl group, Brave Girls.

Now, you might be wondering 'who are the Brave Girls?' 'Where did they come from?' And 'why this absolute banger of a track is only now gaining the appreciation it deserves despite being released 4 years ago?' All the answers are here!

Formed in 2011 by Brave Entertainment, Brave Girls have a long and complicated history, with their first few years finding little success in the music industry. Having numerous members joining and departing, Brave Girls really were the underdogs of the K-pop entertainment industry, seeing an overall loss of 6 members, nearly disbanding 3 times and with just a few days before their final show, Brave Girls fought against all odds, and became the top charting K-pop group of 2021.

How did they do it?

Despite the track “Rollin’” being released on March 7, 2017, the song only recently gained extreme success, topping the Billboard K-Pop top 100 chart, after a military YouTube video gained the track its popularity. What do I mean?? Well, let me explain.

As the track failed to pick up much momentum and was quickly dismissed by the public in 2017, the group spent a lot of time performing at military bases in front of the thousands of soldiers they occupied. Although the gigs didn’t pay much, the girls performed more than 100 shows, and gained a strong following among the troops with 'Rollin' becoming the 'Korean military anthem'.  Fast-forward to 2021, a YouTube video was released and became an overnight viral hit, with a compilation of comments about the song written by the men from the military, with posts such as:

“one of the duties for new recruits was to learn this song”
“we are the real ARMY”
“play this song during a battle and we’ll definitely win wars”

This video threw the girls into stardom as their track broke through several charts, landing them a Perfect all kill (topped 10 major charts) and instant national recognition. The group have won countless awards, beating famous artists such as Rosé from Blackpink, and have become a beacon of light for the underdogs and struggling performers of Korea. Truely giving the saying 'never give up' a new meaning.
