Gentle Light Exhibition Inside the Former US Military Base in Korea

Are you looking for a great exhibition in Seoul? We recommend a visit to the ‘온화, 溫火 Gentle Light’ exhibition, nestled within the Yongsan Children’s Garden. "In the warm light, illuminate the future of Yongsan, once a forbidden land." 따스한 불빛으로, 금단의 땅이었던 용산의 미래를 밝히다

Gentle Light Exhibition

'On Hwa' is a luminous installation that embodies the warmth of the space we call home.

In collaboration with the media artist group SILO LAB, the Gentle Light exhibition might be small in size, but it transports you into a world teeming with dreams. Enchanting you with 1,500 delicate lanterns that twinkle like stars, accompanied by classical melodies and a dazzling play of lights, it's an experience that captivates both young and old.

That exhibition and the Yongsan Children’s Garden offer a meaningful space where people can come together and share their warmth, rekindling fond memories and emotions.

The Yongsan Garden has recently become accessible to the public after being off-limits for an extended period of 120 years. This land, previously forbidden to the public, has been unlocked due to the President's executive office’s decision.

This vast land of 300,000 square meters adjacent to the Yongsan Presidential Office once housed the Yongsan Garrison. A place with a rich history of occupation, it was initially taken over by Japanese troops in 1904, later serving as a US military base following Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule of 1910-45. This historically charged area is slated for redevelopment into a public park and is currently open for public exploration before the construction begins.

We encourage you to visit the exhibition and take a leisurely stroll through this unique land. Immerse yourself in the stories exuded by the former US military base, explore the military houses, wander along Warner Avenue, and savor moments of relaxation in the charming coffee shops.

This is more than an exhibition; it's a chance to connect with history, art, and the serene beauty of transformation.
