Do you want to feel like you’ve traveled in a time machine while sipping your chai tea? You should visit the brand-new Hanok-inspired Starbucks Daegu! It is a beautiful cafe experience that should make its way onto your Korean travel itinerary. Take a look at this Korean travel guide to find out more!

Starbucks Daegu Hanok Style

What is Hanok?

Hanok is the word for traditional Korean buildings and houses built during the Joseon dynasty in the 14th century. They are primarily made of wood and other natural materials, making Hanok villages popular tourist destinations in Korea. Soon enough, Starbucks Daegu Korea adapted the style to their new location in the country!

Where Is the Starbucks Daegu Hanok Inspired Store?

Address in English: 22 Jungang-daero 77-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu

Address in Korean: 대구 중구 중앙대로77길 22

This Hanok-inspired Starbucks is located in downtown Daegu. If you take the subway, it's less than a 5 min walk from exit 1 of Jungang-ro station on line 1. It is a similar distance from exit 15 of  Banwoldang station on line 2. Once you're done, you can walk around the downtown area. There are several other traditional-style buildings in the vicinity and various eateries nearby.

What's on the Menu?

Like most Starbucks, the menu has various coffees and teas. If you’re familiar with Korean culture, you know that Americanos is Korea's most popular coffee drink. Also, if you dine in at Starbucks Daegu South Korea, your drink will come in a reusable cup with a paper straw. There are also light food options such as salads, sandwiches, and desserts.

I had a Yuja Passion drink. It is a special menu item that is only available in Korea. If you're unfamiliar with Yuja, also known as yuzu outside of Korea, it is a citrus fruit that is common in East Asia and Europe. If you are a regular Starbucks goer in another country, you will not be able to use your country's Starbucks app in Korea.

Korea has its own Starbucks app. So, if you want to place a mobile order, you will have to download the Starbucks Korea app. If you don't have the app, don't worry! Cash and card are also accepted in the Starbucks Daegu new Hanok styled location.

Inside the New Starbucks Daegu

The layout of this Starbucks Daegu South Korea branch is incredible. It has two wooden buildings with beautiful exposed wooden beams and traditional roof tiles that beautifully blends modern and traditional style. You can also sip your coffee in three main areas: modern seating, courtyard, and traditional seating.

Modern Area

The modern area of this Starbucks is like that of a typical Starbucks. The main entrance opens to the modern area. It is where you order and can purchase Starbucks Daegu merch with the usual seating options such as chairs or benches.

Traditional Area

This area in the Starbucks Daegu Hanok building requires you to take your shoes off when you first enter the building. There are small tables that seat 4 people. Also, as is typical for traditional spaces, there is floor seating in the form of seat cushions. There is also additional outdoor seating on the backside of this traditional building.

Courtyard

The courtyard is a nice open space between modern and traditional buildings. It’s a grassy area with tables and benches. The simple yet stunning beauty of the Starbucks Daegu Korea courtyard makes a great backdrop for photos and is also accessible via a traditional-style side entrance.
