Have you ever heard of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)? If you're in South Korea, chances are you've not only heard of it but also taken the test and know your four-letter code by heart.

However, if you haven't taken the test, don't fret–blood type works just as well, especially as a conversation starter. But what if you know nothing about the MBTI or blood types? That's okay; I've got you covered.

Blood Types: a Pre-MBTI Hype

Long before the MBTI craze, blood types existed and still do. Koreans firmly believe that something as simple as blood flowing within us could affect our personality.

So what are the blood types, and what do they say about a person?

Type A

Type As are the loyal and kind-hearted friends you'll want! They're like a warm hug on a chilly day, always there to support you. But here's the twist: they can be shy and stubborn. Their affection for you might sometimes be overbearing, but they care the most.

Type B

Now, let's take a look under the microscope at Type Bs. They're crazy, adventurous, and super extroverted–a guaranteed life of the party, but they’re impatient and fiercely independent. Type B celebrities include T.O.P., a former member of BIGBANG, and Lee Dong Wook from "Tale of the Nine Tailed."

Type AB

Type ABs are the chameleons of the group, the ultimate mix of Type A and Type B. One moment, they're shy, and the next, they're outgoing. They might seem aloof or cold, but they usually prefer their own company. Lastly,

Type O

Type Os are the confident go-getters destined for leadership! However, they're workaholics, can be insensitive sometimes, and hate when people lie. Great examples of Type O celebrities include Bang Chan of Stray Kids' and BaekHyun of E.X.O.

But what about MBTIs? Where does its origins begin?

Exploring the MBTI Trend in Korea

Meet the dynamic mother-daughter duo Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs! They created a personality G.P.S. to help women find their dream jobs. Curious how a World War II-era test became a sensation in South Korea?

The answer is surprisingly simple: the pandemic!

The MBTI was a connection booster for many, and 16 Personalities allowed them to peek into their own minds–just like with blood types.

It was so crazy the demand for MBTI merchandise skyrocketed, and booths popped up to help people link up.

Companies were even hiring specific personality types.

K-POP groups like NCT DREAM even got in on the action with a summer album and a track titled 'ISTJ.' The lyrics went, “Introvert, sensing, thinking, interpreting you, sixteen words.”

It was a tidal wave of connection, self-discovery, and music! But what did they mean by “Introvert, sensing, thinking, interpreting you, sixteen words.

The Four Core Aspects

Your unique character is woven from five core aspects:

Energy, Extraversion (E) vs. Introversion (I)

This reveals how you engage with others socially. Do you enjoy socializing or spending time alone?

Mind, Intuition (N) vs. Observation (S)

This shows your thinking style. Are you practical and forward-thinking or imaginative and curious?

Nature, Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F)

This determines how you make decisions and cope with emotions. Do you tend to follow your mind or lead with your heart?

Tactics, Judging (J) vs. Prospecting (P)

This aspect focuses on your planning. Do you prefer to be organized or go with the flow?

These aspects result in 4 total letters determining one of your 16 personality types.
